A car can do more than just get you from A to B. It can also play A on the piano and B on the guitar; it can smack a pool noodle against some large, tuned bins and hit a stick against a few industrial-sized salad bowls. Essentially, a car can create music—if its driver is going the right speed and its passengers aren't too prone to whiplash and its course is designed in an MIT-sanctioned manner. This music video for Needing/Getting was less an exercise of setting the pieces up and watching them work, than an experiment in human/machine/object collaboration in real time to create sound in a beautiful and interesting and strange way. And, it was an opportunity for Damian to drive really, really fast in the Mojave Desert.
