Literally all King Princess does is take fierce selfies and make gorgeous songs. Well, okay, that’s not everything. The 20-year-old phenom is a proud queer ally, nimbly blending humor and activism both in her lyrics and her social presence. Her fans love her for the jokes, the memes, the affirming candor about her own sexuality and, of course, the music. Her breakout ode to queer lit, “1950,” caught love from Harry Styles (he’s bringing her on his next tour), but the debut full-length, Cheap Queen, with its deft balance of modern pop sensibilities and the tasteful touch and lyricism of 70s balladry, affirms KP as one of the most alluring songwriters of the next decade.
