Oh Wonder - Happy (Studio Performance)
Anthony West and Josephine Vander Gucht comprise the alt pop duo Oh Wonder. Initially, while writing and producing in South East London, the pair gained fans with down-tempo, keyboard-driven melodies, releasing one song a month for a year on SoundCloud. In interviews, the two have confessed that they, at the time, considered themselves songwriters first. By setting a monthly deadline, West and Vander Gucht forced their emotionally insightful songs into the light of day. “Happy” is the couple’s first song of the new decade, and a signifier of a new album. Aided by a drum machine and stark harmonies, their studio performance carries the same emotionally resonant songwriting (“Never thought I’d be happy/to see you with somebody new) that fans have come to love.
