When you inject rock firepower into a country attitude, things start shaking quick. Nate Smith's "World On Fire" last December, fans felt the Earth make some seismic shudders. The NoCal singer-writer has always put muscle into his music. At the start of 2023's "Whiskey On You" video, he turns to his band and says, "We got time for one more song, let's kill it." And indeed they do. BAM! That chorus comes on like a blast of Nirvana, all aggression and anxiety rolled into a fist. And speaking of Team Cobain, the bandleader who sometimes sports a Led Zeppelin t-shirt closes his 'Through The Smoke' album with the trio's "Heart-Shaped Box," and yes, it's eruption is sizable. Things were a bit softer back in 2019, when his "Wildfire" got him noticed by radio and fans, but regardless how Smith taps the brakes, there's always a signature oomph to his tunes. Even his Tenille Townes ballad collab on "I Don't Wanna Go To Heaven" has a vicious undertow. To celebrate the April arrival of 'Through the Smoke,' we invited Smith to our studio for a romp through "Bulletproof” and “Wish I Never Felt.” The band wasn't fooling around. Catch 'em on the road this summer. He's rolling with Morgan Wallen's tour on several dates, and has plenty of festival gigs of his own.
